HOW TO HELP YOURSELF

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

To help avoid cancer, heart attacks, strokes and other illnesses:

- Do not smoke, and protect your child from cigarette smoke.

- Drink alcohol sensibly - a maximum of 21 units a week for females, 28 units for males, (one unit equals a half-pint of beer, a “pub single” of spirits, or one glass of wine).

- Do not drink and drive.

- Take regular exercise.

- Eat a sensible diet - avoid fat, salt and sugar.

- Avoid illicit or ‘recreational’ drugs.

- Practise safe sex and use contraception where appropriate.

- Protect yourself and your children from the sun.

- Always wear your car seat belt, watch your speed. Teach your children road safety.

- Use cycle helmets.

- Is your home safe from accidents? Check it tonight. Fit a smoke alarm.
